Chapter 8

The school was across the street from Joe’s house, only about a five-minute walk. All three of us were walking adjacent to one another. We weren’t walking fast because the school wasn’t that far of a walk. Jerry was still smoking the half roach that he was holding. Joe then pulled out a pack of cigarettes and started smoking one. He offered it to Jerry and then me. Jerry took one and started smoking it. I held out my hand and refused his offer. Cigarettes were bad and so easy to get addicted to. Even though smoking weed was bad also, it was nowhere near as detrimental to your health as cigarettes were, cigarettes could actually kill you. So many times, when I was younger in elementary school, doctors came and talked to my class and told us that cigarettes are very bad for you and could kill you, and they showed us many pictures of people who had throat cancer and all these other illnesses, all due to smoking cigarettes. Some lady I even remember had a hole in her throat and she had to carry a plastic tube with her everywhere she went just so that she can breathe. Ever since then, I made a promise to myself that I will never ever put a single cigarette in my mouth. I also said the same thing about smoking weed.

Then I noticed a flash of light pass me by and then I saw aliens descending from a UFO that was floating above us. I stopped walking and stared at the UFO with a blank expression. Joe and Jerry also stopped walking and they began to stare at me.

Wassup bro?” Jerry said to me as he took another hit of the blunt that he was holding. He wanted to know the reason as to why I stopped walking.

Bro, I know you see that!” I said and then I pointed towards the UFO. Joe and Jerry both looked in the direction of where I was pointing. Then they both erupted in laughter.

Bro! How high are you?” Joe said to me.

I looked at him with a straight face, then I said “yes”, and then I slowly resumed walking.

Joe and Jerry both started laughing harder. I could now see the school. It was right in front of us. I could see the flagpole and the lengthy stucture of the head of the building. The UFO aircraft that was following us had now disappeared, I didn’t know where it had gone to. I didn’t really care, all I cared about was going to the cafeteria to buy an egg and cheese sandwich and some toaster strudels. Munchies definitely became present to me. It felt like I hadn’t eaten for days on end. I looked at both and Joe and Jerry behind me, they were both smoking a cigarette while walking.

Yo I’ma holl at ya’ll, I’m finna run to the cafeteria.” I said to both Joe and Jerry. I was telling them that I was just gonna run to the school cafeteria real quick, and I’ll catch up with them later on in school.

Whatever bruh, don’t let the aliens abduct you on the way.” Joe looked at me and said while half laughing. I ignored his comment and began to run towards the school cafeteria. I decided to cross the street and went to the sidewalk on the other side of the street, because I knew that the aliens were still behind me and I wanted to avert them from coming in my direction.

Surprisingly, there was actually a few people in the cafeteria. Usually there was nobody there in the mornings. It’s only packed during lunch. As I walked in the front door I could feel that all eyes were fixed on me. I ignored everyone and headed directly to the front of the cafeteria where the food was being served.

My plan was to only buy an egg and cheese sandwich with some toaster strudles and not spend no more than $7, but things didn’t really go exactly the way that I planned. I ended up buying an egg and cheese sandwich, orange juice, pop tarts, Oreos, a quesadilla, a tuna sandwich, and a roast beef sandwich. I spent a total of $17. I took all my food and went to the checkout lady at the back of the cafeteria to pay for my items. I walked up to her while holding several trays of food. I then put all the trays on the counter for her to check them out. She looked at the many trays of food, and then she looked at me in the eyes. She looked at me for a few seconds, there wasn’t a smile on her face, she just gave me a straight look. She didn’t say anything; her expression remained the same for the entire time as she checked out the items. The total came out to $17.25. I handed her the $50 bill that my dad had given me the previous night, and she put the cash in the register and gave me the change back, which was about $33, or close to that amount. She handed me the money and I put it in my wallet. I took $12 and put it in my back pocket, I had to make sure that I give that money to Joe later on when I see him today at gym or at lunch.

I took the trays of food and found a empty table and sat down. I looked at the trays of food. I started thinking to myself “how am I going to possibly eat all of this?” Before I had time to answer that question I dived in the egg and cheese sandwich and the tuna sandwich, and before I knew it I was on the last bit of food left, just the Oreos, I threw it in my mouth and jugged down the orange juice, I then grabbed a paper towel from the table that I was seated at and began to wipe my mouth. As I was doing so, three random girls walked up to me. They were about the same age as me, and they were in the same grade level that I was in. I had seen these girls before, one of them was in my first block biology class with Ms. Senkow. The other two girls I had only seen during lunch and in the hallways at school. The girls never really talked to me, and I never really talked to them. They laughed at my many jokes and my impression of Miss Liz, but they never really had a full blown conversation with me.

“Hey, are you Jason?” Said one of the girls. She was white Caucasian, she had was dressed in all black and she had freckles on her face, and she had many tattoos on her right arm and neck. She was about medium height, she had light brown hair which was plenty, her hair was put neatly into a bow with a pin at the top of it to hold it all together. She was very attractive.

“Well yeah, that’s what it says on my ID I think.” Jason said, as he pulled out his ID and showed it to the girl.

The girl brushed the ID to the side, nearly causing Jason to drop it, and then she said “you the boy that was talking to Christy yesterday on the phone?” Said the girl.

Jason looked at the girl and twisted his face, he didn’t answer the question, he just stared suspiciously at the girl. “Who are you?” Said Jason to the girl.

“Violet, I’m Christy’s best friend.” Replied the girl to Jason. At this point the girl now stood in front of Jason with her arms folded across her chest while her hips was leaning, she looked like how Lisa looked when she was chastising Jason or his father. Jason noticed the immense size of her cleavages, but he brushes the thought to the side and decided to focus on the important matter at hand.

“Ok….. and…..?” Said Jason to Violet.

Another girl stepped in front of Violet. This one was much shorter, she was black, she had extensions on her hair that were very long, she only had one tattoo on her chest that spelled out “Roxanne”, I guess that must’ve been her name.

“We know that you be hanging around ‘Stinky Joe’ and ‘Hairy Jerry’!” Roxanne said as she stood in front of me with authority and spoke with much vulgarity. Her voice was very low and tiny, which suited her small size quite well.

“We know that they’re your smoking buddies, we know you be getting high with them!” Violet then cut in and said.

The last girl then stepped in, “Christy called us last night crying, she said that you’re the sweetest boy ever and she wanna go out with you.” Said the girl. She was even more attractive than Violet was. She was either Hawaiian or Indian, or maybe she was mixed with something else. She had flawless caramel skin, with really long eye lashes, and she also had a tattoo, the tattoo that she had was of a butterfly on her neck.

“Soo… what’s the problem here?” Said Jason to all three girls.

They all looked at Jason and they came forward to him a little bit.

“We don’t know what Christy sees in you boy, but we don’t like your kind and we don’t want our friend to get hurt!” Said the Indian or Hawaiian girl. I didn’t quite know what her name was. She folded her hands and put it on her hips just like Violet had done earlier.

I looked at the girls and began thinking to myself “if that’s how they feel now then most definitely they will lose it when they find out that I’m going to ask Christy to marry me”.

“Well… that’s not really your call!” I looked at the last girl and said to her.

“I love Christy, and I wanna be with her, and I WILL be with her, whether you like it or not!” I said to all three girls.

All the girls put their hands over their mouth, then simultaneous they all said in a low voice “Awwww!”

They all looked at me with starry eyes. Then Violet stepped forward to me and asked me “You love her?”

“Yup, I do. From the bottom of my heart.” I confidently said to Violet and the rest of the girls.

“You guys should not interfere with matters of the heart, if Christy wants to be with me and I want to be with her then leave us be, it’s not your call.” I said to the girls.

They all looked at me and put their hands on their chest and said “Awww!” Louder this time, some students from the cafeteria even turned their heads to look at me and the girls talking.

Then, Roxanne stepped up and said in a much more soft and relaxing tone of voice, “Okay, we’ll trust you boy, just don’t hurt her okay, because if you do then we’ll find you and kill you.” Roxanne said with a smile. Then the home bell rang and everybody left from the cafeteria to go to their home room. Including all three girls.
